Weird, on purpose
Ina Propriette is a born-and-bred Capetonian drag artist and entertainer whose work refuses to sit still. Power ballads. Vogue dips and spins. Classic theatre cabaret. Conceptual drag art. She can travel from pageant queen to opera diva to clown jester to club kid in the span of three lipsyncs — and does, regularly.
She is a storyteller first. Every look is built to carry an idea, and the idea is usually one the room was not expecting. Her early pageant appearances — bare chest, nipple tassels, a silhouette nobody else in the scene was doing — split opinion sharply, which was precisely the point. Boundary-pushing is not a phase of the work; it is the work.
Today she performs across Cape Town's stages, from theatre houses to the city's underground queer venues, and hosts and curates ballroom functions as a multiple grand-prize trophy winner in her own right.
I always tell people that I didn't choose drag — drag chose me. Ina Propriette

House of Indecency
The House of Indecency is Ina's kiki house — her point of view on a Cape Town ballroom scene she watched grow crowded with elaborate themes and elaborate entry fees. Her answer was to build functions around the thing the community actually needed: access.
Tickets to The Nitty-Gritty Ball, the house's second function, started at R60. The house has since staged The Dearly Beloved Kiki Function at The Outlore Base — billed as a ceremony of remembrance, expression and transformation.
